These are the children of Ben Robinson & Mary Burton.  Ben Robinson was a slave born in
Georgia in 1847.  It is believed that the Robinson family was owned by J.P. Robinson of
Chester County, South Carolina.  J.P Robinson married a woman from North Carolina and
traveled extensively to see her.  In the process, he was purchasing and selling his slaves.
He and his wife lived in North Carolina for a few years, before they decided to move back to
South Carolina.  After they spent a year or two in South Carolina, they decided to migrate
west to Alabama.  The reason many families from Virginia, North & South Carolina to
Alabama was due to the soil.  After several years of farming, the soil was growing old.   The
Robinsons traveled to Alabama by way of Georgia.

The family stopped in Georgia for a little while.  One of their sons, J.W. was born there in
1853.  It is believed that J.P. Robinson purchased some slaves.  It is believed that he
purchased little Ben on the slave block, who had to be no more than six years old.  He was
raised with the Madison and Rhody Robinson family.  According to the descendants of the
Robinson family, Ben was sold from his parents and never saw them again.  When the
Robinson family arrived in Greene County, they settled in Union.  When Ben was a young
man, he courted a woman named Mary Snoddy , who was the daughter of Jack & Sophia
Burton.    Mary Snoddy was married to a man whose last name was Snoddy.  It isn't known
what happened to him, but the two weren't married that long.  The couple had one child
named Flora Snoddy.

The Burton family had white, black, and indian blood.  The matriarch of the Burton was fair
skinned.  It is believed that her father was white.  Her daughters Sophia & Mary were light
brown skinned with beautiful long hair.  One of her sons Ben Jr, was also light brown skinned
with green or hazel eyes.
