| The patriarch of this family is George Maxwell. George Maxwell was born in South Carolina in 1800. It is believed that he was owned by the Thompson family and brought to Greene County. It is also believed that he had a brother Joshua Thompson. George was sold to the Maxwell family in the early 1820's. He married a slave woman named Creasy Gandy (1810), from a neighboring plantation. Together they had seven known children. |
